Oldmeldrum,Bourtie & Daviot Community Council Report
Tuesday 28th January 2025
The following topics were discussed at the recent Community Council Meeting
Discussions and Resolutions
- Unacceptable delays when contacting the (Newburn) Medical Practice.
Discussion.
- The Community Council heard several verbal, in person, reports of excessive waiting time “on hold” when attempting to contact the Medical Practice by telephone.
- This issue was raised by both CC members and also by members of the public present.
- Anecdotal evidence from local social media groups also indicate that this issue is affecting a significant number of local people.
Resolution
- The CC has agreed to write to the Medical Practice (Newburn) highlighting our concerns and requesting a response.
- Councillors present at the meeting have also resolved to write to the practice.
- The CC will also write to our local MP and MSP about this issue

2. Road signage – HGV vehicles entering Rosebank due to SatNav directions
Discussion
- The road through Market Square between the Colpy Road roundabout (beside the co-op) and the junction of South Road with the A947 used to be designated as the A920.
- In 2012 Aberdeenshire Council resolved to re-designate this section of road as “C” class and remove the “A” classification. This coincided with the construction of the relief road to the west of the town.
- However, the road continues to have the A920 designation on SatNav systems including Google maps.
- The route has signage restricting weight to 7.5 tonnes except for delivery access.
- Council officers have reported that they believe the present signage is sufficient.
Resolution
- The CC agreed to write to the appropriate council officers, copying in the ward councillors, requesting improved signage, particularly in relation to Rosebank.
- Our local MP and MSP have also agreed to lend their support.
Further information (Not discussed)
- Individuals can report incorrect road names to Google by using the “Contribute” button on the Google maps app screen.
3. Westbank Care Home – vandalism
Discussion
- The lower level of the building has been boarded up.
- Local councillors present informed the meeting that the upper floors will be boarded up this week. The building has been decommissioned with only the fire alarm remaining functional.
Resolution
- Councillors assured us that the council is taking steps to secure the building
- Further discussion around the future of the site will be progressed by the CC with more information to follow.
Further information (Not discussed)
- The land on which the care home sits was once part of the Duff family’s Meldrum House estate.
