A woman has been taken to hospital, after her car plunged into a ditch filled with water in Aberdeenshire.

The incident, which involving one car, happened northbound on the A920 Colpy to Oldmeldrum road, at Mounie Lodge just after 10pm. Icy conditions caused the car to veer into a ditch and overturn on its side which left the car submerged in water. Fire crews from Oldmeldrum, Inverurie and Ellon were all called to the scene, and had to cut the woman from the vehicle.

The woman has now been taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary where she is being treated for injuries to her back and legs. Police have now closed the road between Meikle Wartle and Oldmeldrum due to the dangerous surface. Diversions are in place.
