Oldmeldrum Sports could face a massive drop in profits this year after a licensing standards official ordered a last-minute shutdown of the traditional marquee bar at Saturday night’s popular disco finale.

Yesterday stunned organisers of the 82nd Oldmeldrum Sports and Highland Games were still investigating how a new licensing law brought a sobering end to a successful day.

Sport secretary Gordon Forsyth said: “A licensing standards officer turned up just five minutes before the 9pm-1am event was about to get under way to tell us we could not open the bar.”
