SERVICE TO OLDMELDRUM HONOURED WITH AWARD
The Chairman of Oldmeldrum Community Council was presented with an award certificate of long and dedicated service to the community by local Aberdeenshire Councillor Paul Johnston on behalf of the Provost Hamish Vernal.
Andrew was unable to be at an award ceremony – becasue he thought it more important to be chairing a meeting of the Community Council at Daviot Hall the same evening !! Councillor Johnston, came directly from the awards carrying the cerificate to present to Andrew at the Meldrum Community Council meeting in Daviot Hall, on Tuesday 23rd June.
“Andrew McCartney has given a huge amount to our town and it’s surrounding area. In his time and sheer effort, he has played an an immense part to make this a great place to live. We honour his dedication and the volunatry work he has done. He is an example to us all. ” said Councillor Johnston.
Mr McCartney, as always, was quick to point out the efforts of others as well.
Besides Oldmeldrum Bourtie and Daviot Community Council, which Andrew chairs he has been behind MAIG the Amenities group that have won Oldmeldrum awards for its flowers and displays, while also organinsing the Christmas lights and switch on event. That task is done with the Rotary club of Oldmeldrum, which Andrew was a founder member and past president. Andrew’s achievements include the community’s park on South Road, and the many awards the Amenities group have achieved in Formartine in Bloom.
The Community Council meeting applauded Andrew on the award.
Other Oldmeldrum awards were made in absentia and when a presentation can be made these will be reported later.
