The Games “Heavies” will do battle at Meldrum Sports

The event will, as always, feature an array of traditional cultural and sporting entertainment including Highland Dancing, Piping, Athletics and the giant Heavy Athletes in action. Highlights this year are set to include the “Sureclean British Caber Championship”, “Rollstud Drum Major Display” and the Guarana Street Drummers

The event is part of the Grampian Games Series sponsored by Glenfiddich. The leading single malt runs a league style Championship for the Heavy Athletes across all twelve Grampian Games and also provides each individual event with funding for prize money for Heavy Athletes competing on the day.

Jim Brown, from the Grampian Games Committee, said: “The Games season is now underway and the Heavy Athletes, who have been training all winter, are in top condition. We are hoping for some record breaking performances at Oldmedlrum.”

And on Sunday, June 21, the Aberdeen Highland Games will be held at Hazelhead Park.

Oldmeldrum Highland Games will be held at the Pleasure Park, Oldmeldrum from 10.30am. Commonwealth Games wrestling medalist, Vio Etko (based in Oldmeldrum) will conduct the official opening at 1.30pm. Tickets are £8 for adults £2 for children, under 5s are free.
