MEMBERS of Meldrum Rotary Club gathered at Udny Green last week to take part in the club’s charity fundraising cycle.

Over 40 cyclists took part in the 26 mile challenge, which involved a round trip from Udny Green to Methlick, with others tackling a gentler, seven-mile version.

Money raised from the event will be donated to the Monty’s Maggie’s appeal, with other sums to go to charities of competitors’ choices including Macmillan Nurses, ARCHIE and the Turriff and District Citizens’ Advice Bureau.

A spokesman for the club said: “We would like to thank all the participants and helpers for making the 2012 Ythan Cycle Run another enjoyable and successful day.

“Some of the riders who have participated in all four of these events said they preferred this route to last year’s, despite the home run which was quite taxing, especially when cycling into the head winds.

“The weather remained very pleasant for most of the day with only one or two people getting caught in a shower mid-afternoon.

“Following the benefits of the healthy exercise, the cyclists returned to Udny Green to enjoy the free coffee, tea and home bakes, organised by members of Oldmeldrum Rotary Club, their families and friends.”
