WELCOME FOR PLAN TO INCREASE BUS SERVICE ON A947
Plans for a major service improvement from Stagecoach on the A947 Bus corridor (Servie 35,35a) have been welcomed by councillors representing Newmachar and Oldmeldrum.
Between Oldmeldrum and Aberdeen, Stagecoach is working on a new timetable which will see service frequency increased from half-hourly to every 15 minutes off-peak, and every 20 minutes at peak times. Service 35 between Aberdeen and Elgin will continue to run via Foresterhill and miss out Union Terrace. The new Service 35A, alternating with the 35, between Oldmeldrum and Aberdeen will operate via Great Northern Road and Berryden and serve Union Terrace.
Commenting, Local Councillor Paul Johnston said: “I very much welcome the proposals for a much improved bus service for Oldmeldrum.”
East Garioch councillor Martin Ford said”I have been in communication with Steve Walker, managing director, Stagecoach North Scotland. While I understand Stagecoach have not finalised their plans, I have seen their draft timetable. Through the day, Newmachar would have a bus every 15 minutes to and from Aberdeen, and with two routes in the city, via Foresterhill and via Berryden, being served alternately.
“So the new proposals do not just give a better frequency of service. They also reinstate direct buses between Newmachar and Berryden and allow for getting on and off at Union Terrace. All of these benefits will be welcomed.”
Mid-Formartine councillor Paul Johnston said: “A better bus service between Oldmeldrum and Aberdeen, could reduce the pressure of car journeys on the main A947. It could be a win win situation.”
