There will be a primary 6 and 7 Rugby festival tomorrow (Wednesday 20th) at Meldrum Academy. There will be roughly 150 pupils attending from Pitmedden, Rothienorman and Meldrum Primary Schools. Please feel free to come along The festival will be underway by 10am - 12pm. Garioch Rugby Club are helping with the running of the festival and have been involved in school coaching in the run up to this event.
Oldmeldrum Sports failed to live up to its sunshine sports nickname due to overcast weekend weather. But the crowds still gathered at the 82nd sporting event. Some spectators came prepared with ringside shelters, and occasional light showers failed to put off a crowd of more than 2,000 including several from Canada and Australia Onlookers were treated to a tightly contested series of light and heavy sports, the dampness having little effect on athletes and tug 0 war teams. Lunchtime on Saturday brought the traditional tunes of glory march around the arena by the massed pipes and drums. Local author Stuart MacBride officially opened the event. Mr MacBride congratulated a local group who had carried the Olympic flame around the north-east.…
Oldmeldrum Sports could face a massive drop in profits this year after a licensing standards official ordered a last-minute shutdown of the traditional marquee bar at Saturday night’s popular disco finale. Yesterday stunned organisers of the 82nd Oldmeldrum Sports and Highland Games were still investigating how a new licensing law brought a sobering end to a successful day. The eco group at the academy held a litter pick on Sat 28th. The event was well attended with a good turnout of senior pupils and a number of adults. The great news is they collected lots of rubbish. The bad news is theres lots left! There will be more litter picks in the future.
The Ecogroup at the Academy are organising a litter pick by the pupils Saturday 28th April from 10am-1pm. The school run this every year however they welcome participation by other residents in the community. Please help to make this a success by participating, and spreading the word to get others involved. We meet at Meldrum academy at Equipment will be made available there. The pick will finish at 12 and then people are welcome to tea and coffee and snacks back at the academy
